The noosphere is a philosophical concept in developed by Vladimir Verdansky and Pierre Telihard de Chardin. The idea is that the noosphere is the planetary ‘sphere of reason’, and is the new state of the biosphere. Teilhard believed that the noosphere would develop towards an ‘omega point’, which is the idea that the universe is heading towards one final point of unification. Some interpretations of the noosphere suggest that it could be the development of a single, planetary super-organism, brought on by the thought and development of humanity.
I love this concept as a means of developing the world of enter_universim. The initial feelings I get from this stimuli are ones relating to evolution and ascension. The concept revolves entirely around the development of humanity, thus the noosphere could be applied within enter_universim as a ‘higher being’ of sorts. This does sound somewhat similar to Belief in terms of ascension, but I love the contrast between the two. Belief gains its power through (perceived) blessings from the gods it worships, a step closer to perfection and divinity. However, nothing dictates that ascension should be holy. A higher being could be grotesque and hideous, a complete contradiction to what we would expect. Perhaps this ‘higher being’ could be an attempt to achieve the same ascension as Belief, but not in a god-given way? An attempt to bend the rules and manipulate the universe to evolve?
After pondering the final part of the last paragraph, I came to a really strong realisation of how this concept could translate into enter_universim. Since DreamWare as a company seek to further humanity through their experiments on human consciousnesses, perhaps an extension of their goal could be to ‘evolve’ humanity. They could seek to evolve via assimilating consciousnesses into one super intelligence.
It’s hard to think of any explicit qualities a Conjure based on the noosphere could have outside of assimilation and control. Assimilation has been utilised by Apocalypse: Alpha’s Lifeline Protocol, so perhaps this Conjure concept could utilise a means of ‘controlling’ the opposition? Maybe it could force the opponent to behave a certain way; force their hand? This sounds incredibly powerful on peper and would need a huge drawback, but it definitely sounds unique and fresh for the game. No other Conjure utilises an ability like this, so this is definitely worth exploring if I end up taking this idea forward.
