Conjure Brief:
- Create a Conjure inspired by escapism and self-isolation, but do not leave any suggestion of suffering on the Conjure’s part. Whether the Conjure is in a positive or negative state is to be left ambiguous.
- Maybe utilise shades of blue, as the connotations of blue can be both positive and negative in different cultures.
- The Conjure should have some form of totally-encompassing barrier, such as a shell, isolating them from the outside world.
- The being inside the barrier should look inanimate, the foetal position could be a good pose to use here.
- The being inside should be a textbook human, with no extraordinary features or designs.
- Maybe the shell could be crystalline, as to allow us to view the human inside?
- The Conjure artwork should convey the isolation of the Conjure, make no suggestion of outside interference, and highlight the isolation.

Designing Impervious
- This design was really easy to make. I began by blocking out the shadows and highlights. I also realised I had a similar character design from my 2nd year of Uni, which I used as a reference just to help get the shell right.
- I wasn’t really sure what to add around the outside to make the piece more interesting, so I opted to make it feel like bubbles. Bubbles are little pockets of air within a liquid, which, in theory, could stop an animal from drowning. I liked this little metaphor, so I opted to include it. Impervious is in its own little bubble of safety, despite being surrounded by danger on all sides.
- Experimenting with some glitchy effects. I wanted the outside to be a different colour to the inside of the shell, since I wanted to demonstrate the border and how information is transformed upon contact with the shell.
- I then made the outside bubbles more chaotic and colourful, as to really showcase how strong Impervious’ shell is. No matter what comes into contact with it, it will be nullified.

Lifeline Protocol
- I started out by mapping the loose colours of the black hole, adding some distortion around the accretion disk to make it look like the back side of it rises over the black hole, just like we theorise it would. I also began to mess with bloom.
- I then began to experiment with glitch effects, as to reference back to the translation of information around Impervious’ shell.
- Since Impervious turns into a black hole, I figured it make sense to put it in space. I designed some nebulous structures, and scattered some stars around. I also put a large cluster of them within the space the black hole will occupy, as I can then distort them around the black hole for realism’s sake.
- I made some colour adjustments, and further played with the glitch effects, then placed Impervious over the background. I’m really happy with how this one is turning out. Black holes are actually MUCH easier to draw than anticipated.
